About Me

I’m not much of a rule follower when it comes to art. Most of my stories are for kids, but sometimes I find myself veering down different paths.

I’m really proud of the pieces I’ve written and want to share them with everyone! You’ll find digital versions available here for FREE. After a story is published, it will also be available for purchase in book format.

Hey Chicky Chick

Cartoon yellow chick on grassy hill with title 'Hey Chicky Chick' above, by Leah Lanning.

Hey Chicky Chick takes young readers on a journey to learn about characteristics that colorful chicks do and do not have. Through a question-and-answer rhyming story, they'll discover how other animals talk, eat, grow, sound, and live. A multi-purpose educational tool for parents and teachers to enhance language and early education development.

When a Pet Says Goodbye

Blue book cover with outlined silhouettes of a dog and cat sitting together. Title: 'When a Pet Says Goodbye.' Written and illustrated by Leah Lanning. Background includes scattered paw prints and hearts.

Losing a pet is like losing a best friend. They are part of the family and often give us more than we could ever give them in return. Sadly, the nature of their species means we will likely outlive them and will someday have to say goodbye. This is a love letter from a pet to its owner, thanking them and saying one last farewell.

Donkey See Donkey Do

Cartoon donkey with text 'Donkey See Donkey Do' on a blue background.

Donkey wants to be just like all the other animals on the farm. But, when he tries to imitate their actions, things don’t always turn out the way he hoped. This silly, ridiculous, and fun story illustrates how being like everyone else isn’t always as great as it seems.

A Winter Soltice Tale

Two Christmas gnomes with red and green hats, sitting on pinecones, surrounded by holly and berries. The text above reads 'A Winter Solstice Tale.'

Winter Solstice has been celebrated by different cultures throughout history and falls during the Christmas season. It’s a lovely way to pause and connect with nature on the shortest day of the year. Enjoy a sweet tale of how the gnomes and fairies of the forest celebrate this special day.

My Extra Backpack

Children's book cover featuring a drawing of a smiling girl with blonde hair, a blue bow, and a pink dress standing on grass with trees and flowers in the background. The title "Extra My Backpack" is in pink letters. Written and illustrated by Leah Lanning.

Having an extra chromosome definitely has it’s perks, but sometimes carrying an extra load can be a struggle. For those kiddos, like my daughter, it’s beneficial to share the unique strengths and weaknesses that make them extra special. This story is an excellent tool to help new friends and teachers understand a child’s awesomeness, along with their special needs.
